Malicious AI Swarms as Social Systems: Coordination, Influence, and Collective Dynamics
Date:
Invited speaker at the KAI Seminar at Kristiania Campus Oslo, representing SINTEF.
Abstract
This seminar examines AI swarms as social systems, connecting early research on information diffusion with recent work on synthetic consensus, cyborg propaganda, and coordinated influence. The seminar introduces IO Factory, a simulation framework for studying influence campaigns, and presents ongoing research on narrative amplification, tipping points, adaptive coordination, and collective safety.
At the heart of the discussion is a question: What does coordination add beyond the capabilities of individual AI agents, and which findings from artificial populations can transfer to human settings? The seminar explores how collective AI behaviour can generate dynamics that cannot be understood simply by examining individual agents, and what this means for the study of influence, information ecosystems, and AI safety.
