Projects
This page collects the formal research projects and project contexts I have worked in. They are ordered by their relationship to my current research interests: information integrity and AI-enabled influence operations first, followed by scalable graph and AI systems, and then data infrastructure and interoperability.
Information Integrity and AI-Enabled Influence
- AI-enabled influence operations and malicious AI swarms
2025 - present · SINTEF Digital, University of Oslo / BI Norwegian Business School, Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy, and collaborators
Research initiative on how coordinated AI agents, cyborg propaganda, and synthetic consensus can affect democratic discourse. My work focuses on threat modeling, simulation, evaluation, and infrastructure concepts such as an AI Influence Observatory. Selected outputs include How malicious AI swarms can threaten democracy, IO Factory, and the EU DisinfoLab webinar. - UMOD - Understanding and Monitoring Digital Wildfires
2017 - 2020 · Research Council of Norway SAMRISK II · Simula and NTNU
PhD project on detecting, analyzing, and preparing for fast-spreading online misinformation. My dissertation and several publications grew out of this work on digital wildfires, misinformation propagation, and online social networks. - DD-MAC - Decoding Digital Media in African Regions of Conflict
2021 - 2024 · Research Council of Norway · Project number 325123 · OsloMet, Simula, Utrecht University, African Studies Centre Leiden, Addis Ababa University, and Voice4Thought
Interdisciplinary project on how digital communication shapes conflict development and mediation in sub-Saharan Africa. I focused on computational methods and social-media data, including empirical work on Ethiopia and Mali.
Scalable Graph Computation and AI Systems
- Graph-Massivizer - Extreme and Sustainable Graph Processing for Urgent Societal Challenges in Europe
2023 - 2025 · Horizon Europe · Grant agreement 101093202
Project on high-performance, scalable, and sustainable processing of extreme data through massive graph representations. I worked on scalable graph processing and reasoning with collaborators from the project consortium. - Enabling Graph Neural Networks at Exascale
2020 - 2022 · Simula Research Laboratory and University of Bergen
Project developing computational frameworks for scaling graph neural networks to large parallel systems. My postdoctoral work contributed to extending deep learning methods to unstructured graph data. - enRichMyData - Enabling Data Enrichment Pipelines for AI-driven Business Products and Services
2022 - 2025 · Horizon Europe · Grant agreement 101070284
Project developing scalable data-enrichment pipelines for AI and big-data applications. In the SINTEF context, the work focused on data cleaning, linking, and scaling enrichment pipelines so that high-quality datasets can be built and used more effectively.
Data Infrastructure and Interoperability
- AquaINFRA - Infrastructure for Marine and Inland Water Research
2023 - 2026 · Horizon Europe · Grant agreement 101094434
Project building FAIR data and services, an interaction platform, and virtual research environments for marine and freshwater science. My contribution is in the Smart Data context around interoperable data infrastructure and cross-domain data services. - SEADITO - Social-Ecological Analysis and Models for Digital Twin Ocean
2024 - 2027 · Horizon Europe · Grant agreement 101157243
EU Mission Ocean project developing analytical methods, social-ecological models, and decision-support components for the European Digital Twin Ocean. My work is connected to SINTEF's data infrastructure and interoperability activities for marine and environmental domains. - Geo4Water - Geodata Space for Smart Water Monitoring & Response from Extreme Weather
2025 - 2026 · Digital Europe Programme / DS4SSCC · Grant agreement 101123342
Pilot project creating a geodata space for flood management, pollution monitoring, damage assessment, and urban resilience across Oslo, Donegal, San Javier, and Valencia. My work is connected to SINTEF's rollout and use of the data space for Norwegian stakeholders in the Oslo region.
